Rum is Barbados' national drink?

I never really thought about it but I can see how rum would be be our national drink......lol Macon : "Cricket is the national sport, traffic drives on the left and the literacy rate is the highest in the Caribbean (and higher than the United States). Barbados is the most English of all the Caribbean islands, except that rum, not tea, is the national drink. Among new features awaiting travelers is the recently reopened Harrison's Cave, the island's most popular attraction; the spruced-up Casuarina Beach Resort, winding up a $30 million expansion; and a renovated Oistins Fish Market, site of a famous weekend fish fry. The Barbados waters

Barbadians have a saying that the sea has no back door....and I think they mean the Barbados sea.The older people always use to call it living water and some still believe that it has a mind of its own....you will find that the people of Barbados have a great respect for the sea, some may even say a fear....many are surprised at large number of people living on this island who just can't swim or have no desire to swim.A visit to the beach usually means that you take a sea bath ,which is just a little dip in the most shallow area you can find.... I like to see the contrast between the waters of east and west coast. The east coast is like a semi angry monster ready to devour all living souls while the west coast is somewhat like the same monster calmly luring you into its clutches........of course they are some who would attempt in some small way to conquer the Barbados waters .

Tiniest Snake Discovered In Barbados - Science: The Post Chronicle

I always knew that Barbados along with St.Lucia had one of the smallest species of snakes in the world, about six to seven inches but this one recently is much smaller. The Post Chronicle : "The smallest snake known to man has been discovered on the Caribbean island of Barbados, a U.S. expert says. Blair Hedges, an evolutionary biologist at Pennsylvania State University, came across the tiny species in a forest in the east of Barbados. The snake has a width similar to a piece of spaghetti and can fit on a U.S. quarter."

Caribbean tourists need not panic

Antigua shooting: Caribbean tourists need not panic - Telegraph : "have just returned from a family holiday in Barbados and at no point did I feel I was in any danger, nor, more importantly, did I feel my wife and teenage daughters were unsafe. In fact, at the Friday night Bajan jump-up, the Oistin Fish Fry, which is a marvellous swirl of drinking, dancing, eating and ear-splitting soca music, my daughters went off into the crowds and, on return, remarked that they felt much safer there than they would have done at a similar gathering in London."

Emancipation day in Barbados

Today is emancipation day.A day that is celebrated in remembrance of the real fight for freedom for people who had been enslaved...for a people who were treated less than animals, for a people who tried to sing their song in a strange land...at this time we remember the people who were born and died being enslaved in many different countries never knowing freedom but who never gave up the struggle... I look at my little girl and know that if she were born at another time she may had even had doubts as to whether she was really a human being.......the struggle against indoctrination.....the beatings...the killings...the rape....the vile racism that started at that time...not being able to pratice your religion or culture..... some who eventually gave up and actually really believe they were inferior because of the colour of their skin.....some who saw their god in another mans image... We remember the strength... the collective strength of a people who never gave up ...who fought con...
