Real Estate riches in Barbados

Slowly and silently it seems Barbados is becoming a blessing to real estate investors with rental rates rising consistently and the price of real estate consistently rising. I have never heard of real estate prices dropping in Barbados even for the short term but then I am not too savvy where that is concerned. I too am like the average Bajan. Everything is a house. I don’t know what is a duplex, or a villa or even a studio apartment.I know only a big house or a small house and then the ubiquitous chattel house. A town house to me is a house in the city, that is Bridgetown. Not Speightstown or Holetown and definitely not Oistins. Actually Barbados has four towns as mentioned but not to a Bajan and definitely not to me. When I am going to town it is Bridgetown. It is really funny because Barbados has four towns but really the island is the size of a city. I swear that I have seen some University Campuses bigger than Barbados. Don’t tell that to a Bajan though. Going from saint Michael to

Tropical island or what?

Oh, so now I am living in a tropical country. Well we all know of these tropical countries with exotic and dangerous wildlife. I have always heard that Barbados is a tropical island some would go as far as to say a tropical paradise although it took me a long time to contemplate that thoughts like that could even be true. We don’t have that exotic flora and fauna and culturally I don’t even know where we fit as a nation. A nation with ninety to ninety five percent of African origin who don’t even know where Africa is on the map or for that matter don’t like to hear the word. Mongooses were brought to Barbados in the early days to kill out the snake population .Now we just have a small species of grass snake that make the island its home along with the mongooses of course. The mongoose have reached high and higher heights from the days of sly mongoose to the soon to be infamous Mello, who is the mascot for the cricket world cup that is to be hosted in the Caribbean. We are getting the bi

The Carib and the history of Ichiroganaum by Gary Cole

Today more than ever before, the ways of the Carib are to be laughed at and ridiculed; the dirty, heathen savages who are to be shunted away and have no rights but to die far away. The colonization of Barbados is one of the darkest events and evil stories of modern history. Four centuries ago Spanish and Portuguese slavers started to kidnap, kill and drive out the thousands of peaceful Indians found on the islands the Indians called Ichiroganaum. The exact location of the island was a carefully kept secret but Spanish and Portuguese sailors knew the island only as the barbarous island, “Los Barbados” where brutality and crime could be committed with immunity. The island lay just outside the Caribbean and far away from watchful eyes. Look out for this and other books by Gary and Angela Cole…

A bajan obsession?

Bajans have a fascination with homosexuals. It has been said that Barbados is the homosexual capital of the caribbean.I don't know if this is true or not. However I do know that although the 'practice' is illegal in Barbados it is surprising to see open homosexual prostitution that is prevalent in the city at nights. A well known homosexual once said that once you put on a dress in Barbados and go out at night you will have to be turning back people all night it gets so busy. It has been suggested by some that one out of every two Bajan men are bisexual..... I don't know how true these suggestions are but there seems to be some kind of obsession since the most frequent words coming out of every ones mouth seems to be 'buller'.....
