Sunday Jan 21 will be the birthday of one of our national heroes,Errol Barrow.Whenever that day comes I always remember my father who simply adored Errol Barrow.Having grown up in a society and a world which ignorantly and stupidly believed that one human being was superior because of the colour of their skins or maybe the shape of a noise,or even the presence or absence of lips;He reasoned and rightly so that Errol Barrow was ahead of the times due to the way in which he engineered the social revolution in Barbados.

However that is beside the point. The reason that I would remember my father so much and have a hearty laugh at this time is because of a little experiment I would carry out. My mother is the first person who observed this strange phenomenon. She told me to start any discussion on any topic with my father and before the end of the discussion the topic would have subtly changed to Errol Barrow or just "Barrow" as he would call him.

Sure enough I would start a conversation on dogs and before I knew it we would be discussing Barrow. I started topics on religion, parrots, school, what ever conversation I started a topic on we would always end discussing Errol Barrow.

Without a doubt Errol Barrow changed the landscape and the mind-scape of Barbados and his legacy remains to this day.

Barbadians don't like to speak their minds.Bajans are generally a very timid people.Oftentimes they tend to hide and say things because of the fear of victimization.Recently and I suspect for political reasons they have been an upsurge in weblogs, which although in existence for many years have proved an outlet in recent times for people who want to get their opinions across.I too have been tending to use weblogs a lot more frequently now. In the early days I did host my own weblog using a software program called geeklog but now I much prefer to have it hosted by Google. With their frequent updates and improvements they are the obvious choice, not mentioning the price of course.Which brings me to my point which is not a political point but just an observation and maybe just and opinion.I have not been happy with how the rescue operation in Brittons Hill has been done.Barbados as we are aware is a small country with not a lot of resources and certainly not a lot of experience in many …

I hate to look at the Barbados tourists site that give the history of Barbados. The ones that talk of Columbus discovering these islands and the other foolish tales that the Bob Marley and Burning Spear called 'mis-education'.I agree with them as a matter of fact Burning Spear referred to Christopher Columbus as a 'damn blasted liar'.Thank god for Rastafari. One of the funniest stories is the one of the bearded fig tree and the name Los Barbados which was supposed to mean 'the bearded one'.In the words of Gary Cole from the book reflections; The Colonization of Barbados is one of the darkest events and evil stories of modern history.Four centuries ago,Spanish and Portuguese slavers started to kidnap, kill and drive out the thousands of peaceful Indians found on the island the Indians called Ichirouganaim. The exact location of the island was a carefully kept secret but Spanish and Portuguese soldiers and sailors knew the island as the barbarous island,"Los Barb…
