I know it is not that funny but whenever I hear the words 'cricket world cup' it evokes a certain amount of mirth on my part, yet I know it is really not that funny.

From the impression I was getting from the politicians and the organisers you would have expected the Caribbean to be crawling with visitors right about now.To say simply that this has not been the case would be a mild understatement.

What is even more funny is to listen to some of the reasons put forth for the poor showing.I don't know anyone who have bought tickets but knowing the way that Bajans go about watching cricket I am not surprised. We don't like too much complexity and the world cup phenomenon was oozing complexity. Some people didn't even know how to buy a ticket.

Although many have been blaming the ICC I am not apt to do so because we do have leaders in the Caribbean who should not blindly accept what is put before them but all too often Caribbean people appear to lack the acumen to negotiate in these situations.

There is a lot of money to be had in the rights to the television broadcasts but I wouldn't be surprised if the Caribbean sees little or none of this money.

Barbadians don't like to speak their minds.Bajans are generally a very timid people.Oftentimes they tend to hide and say things because of the fear of victimization.Recently and I suspect for political reasons they have been an upsurge in weblogs, which although in existence for many years have proved an outlet in recent times for people who want to get their opinions across.I too have been tending to use weblogs a lot more frequently now. In the early days I did host my own weblog using a software program called geeklog but now I much prefer to have it hosted by Google. With their frequent updates and improvements they are the obvious choice, not mentioning the price of course.Which brings me to my point which is not a political point but just an observation and maybe just and opinion.I have not been happy with how the rescue operation in Brittons Hill has been done.Barbados as we are aware is a small country with not a lot of resources and certainly not a lot of experience in many …

Ichirouganaim

I hate to look at the Barbados tourists site that give the history of Barbados. The ones that talk of Columbus discovering these islands and the other foolish tales that the Bob Marley and Burning Spear called 'mis-education'.I agree with them as a matter of fact Burning Spear referred to Christopher Columbus as a 'damn blasted liar'.Thank god for Rastafari. One of the funniest stories is the one of the bearded fig tree and the name Los Barbados which was supposed to mean 'the bearded one'.In the words of Gary Cole from the book reflections; The Colonization of Barbados is one of the darkest events and evil stories of modern history.Four centuries ago,Spanish and Portuguese slavers started to kidnap, kill and drive out the thousands of peaceful Indians found on the island the Indians called Ichirouganaim. The exact location of the island was a carefully kept secret but Spanish and Portuguese soldiers and sailors knew the island as the barbarous island,"Los Barb…
